Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Learning for Children in Reception Class.

At the end of their Reception year we assess all children and decide if they have met a set of Early Learning Goals (ELGs) in different areas of learning. The Department for Education made a decision to change the ELGs that are used to assess children and offered schools the chance to adopt the new early learning goals one year early, from September 2020. Our school decided to become an early adopter school and we began using the new ELGs to assess pupils' learning at the end of their Reception year. New guidance to support learning over the Reception year has been released alongside these new early learning goals, this is called Development Matters. Development Matters is not a checklist of things that your child should do, rather it is guidance for adults who work with children, to help them to support and embed your child’s learning journey. Should you require more information about this, please see the documents below or speak to our EYFS lead, Miss M. Patel.

Homework Grids.

Children will receive half termly grids with a range of exciting topic activities to complete alongside key skills tasks. These tasks are to be completed in the homework books.

Homework is usually issued to children on a Friday and must be completed and returned by Wednesday. To help with this, a homework grid is issued to each child every half term. We have included some examples below but the most up to date version of your child’s homework timetable can be found in their homework folder on Showbie.

We will continue to send home knowledge organisers and homework grids to support children ‘s learning – please do encourage your children to make best use of these to help them with their learning.

We know that we see you regularly at the start and at the end of the school day and this is a good opportunity to liaise about your children. If you would like to speak to us at greater length, then please arrange an appointment to meet with a member of the EYFS staff through the office.

Thank you for your ongoing support.
